Fear Factor

Thanks so much Haziq's mum. So sorry I didn't get your name.

I live in a constant fear that every time I crack an egg, a little embryo is going to plop out. And being a baker doesn't help to ease this anxiety any better. I crack eggs more than 40 times a week and each knock sends a shudder down my spine. I close my eyes every time the need to do so arises and will take a peek through a half closed eyelids to check if there are any blood spots in the bowl or worse still a half formed chick. I think I develop more wrinkles around my eyes compared to anyone else my age due to the never ending cringe. That is also probably the reason why I don't include cake lapis in my wares. Each cake has like 30 egg yolks in them, imagine doing 4 cakes a week, that's more than a 100 times of cringing.

Another silly phobia I need to address everyday is opening cupboards. A host of creatures are feared to jump on my head or crawl on my feet or slide in my baju. Not to mention the phobia of when I have to go out and put my shoes on. Lizards, creepy crawlies or even rats might take refuge in my shoes. It has all happened before, the plopping of embryo, the jumping of spider on my head and the squashing of lizard in my shoe. Semua dah jadi dah. Itu yang saya takut tu.

If you think my phobias are a little too silly, I would like to invite you to take a look at a long list of even funnier phobias that exist in this world.

Just The Way He Is

Thanks Dear!

"...If only." fussed my sister.

The two words were then followed with a train of thoughts which gushed out from our system. My sister and I just rolled our eyes accepting the fate that has befallen us. We somehow knew, never in our lifetime will we ever be bestowed with such a sweet gesture from our husbands. I chuckled at the very improbability of ever receiving such a response from my better other and would laugh out even more if he did find this entry to his comprehension. I guess it is just not in his faculty of understanding to attempt such a thing. It is just the way he is.

But the song I am hooked to right now oozes the "aaaww" reaction at every corner of the melody. I listened to it out loud, in my heart, in my mind, turning the volume extra loud in the presence of my husband whilst he was driving and singing it again in the shower, in the kitchen just to ignite any kind of curiosity from him. Sometimes upon failure after failures, I would unashamedly suggest that he'd play this song with his band and maybe just maybe he'd take notice of the lyrics and go "...hey, this is something I would like to say to my wife!, what a cool song." But of course, that structured line would be something you hear in Sesame Street only LOL!

Anyway, after major hint drops which resulted in more catastrophic disappointments, I voiced out to him pathetically, "...Awak tak nak dedicate lagu "Just The Way You Are" by this Bruno guy kat saya ker?" He swerved to look at me and said, "...ok sure!" and continued triumphantly with "...awak nak saya dedicate lagu apa lagi, cakap jer, nanti saya dedicate kat awak k!" without even trying to listen to the song first or asking me what the song is all about ...TAU! hahahahaha.

It is just the way he is. Love him to bits though.

So marilah saya perasan sorang2 diri dan let my imagination run wild with him singing me this song, minus the bruno hat.

Hit it Bruno!

*Latest update: I had this song on when my son came from the back, singing along with his feet and hands all over the place, twirled to me just in time to sing " are amazing, just the way you are." Lagu ni ingatkan Anin to mama la. huhuhuhu

Thanks Sis!

Just The Way You Are

Oh her eyes, her eyes
Make the stars look like they're not shining
Her hair, her hair
Falls perfectly without her trying

She's so beautiful
And I tell her every day

Yeah I know, I know
When I compliment her
She wont believe me
And its so, its so
Sad to think she don't see what I see

But every time she asks me do I look okay
I say

When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change
Cause you're amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you're amazing
Just the way you are

Her nails, her nails
I could kiss them all day if she'd let me
Her laugh, her laugh
She hates but I think its so sexy

She's so beautiful
And I tell her every day

Oh you know, you know, you know
Id never ask you to change
If perfect is what you're searching for
Then just stay the same

So don't even bother asking
If you look okay
You know I say

When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change
Cause you're amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you're amazing
Just the way you are

The way you are
The way you are
Girl you're amazing
Just the way you are

When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change
Cause you're amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you're amazing
Just the way you are

Fly With Me to L.A.: The Finale

First of all I would like to apologize for writing this in such haste. The pictures are too many, in the thousands, the stories that go along with each one are too lengthy to share. I know Lisa is counting on me to regale everything as each one has its own significance in this memorable journey of ours. But sometimes words run away from me especially when things need to be sorted out in the currency of time.

Before we brushed shoulders with some of the world's famous Hollywood stars, we dropped by at the Farmer's Market for breakfast.

Lisa looking high and low for halal restaurant. She was hungry for red meat. Kan baru kena kokak dgn Dracula tadi. Deep into the market our eyes were transfixed to this...

The staff at the counter looked tanned and we felt at home. But we couldn't really understand their language though. So we spoke in Malay, kira macam terjumpa sedara la ceritanya. But alangkah terkejutnya kami, mereka sepatah pun tak memahami bahasa kami. We then had the natural tendency to question the halal status of this restaurant. And to our dismay it was not halal. It was so near yet so far kinda situation for us, especially when kami telah pun terhidu aroma nasi lemak, laksa, mee kari dan sebagainya. Well in the end we quietly settled for this instead...alhamdulillah .

Keju dan singkong... ahaks.

LA is a vibrant city. The multitude of cultures of the people contribute to the interesting hues. The splashes of colours found at Little Mexico along Olvera Street were just gorgeous to the eyes.

Beginilah rupa Lisa setelah kenyang.

Kebetulan ada pesta tari-menari disitu. Seronok apabila dpt menyaksikan orang2 asli Mexico ni mempersembahkan kebudayaan mereka. Jika anda perhatikan betul2 Lisa pun mengambil bahagian dalam acara ini, gambar pertama dari kiri ;o)

Other than locating the Route 66, Lisa had another task she was assigned to accomplish. Her dearest husband is a fan of LA Ink, a tattoo show shown on Astro. Her husband is attracted to the graphic beauty of it, not the tattooing on skin part, mind you. She had the address of the shop scribbled down somewhere and has been sweet talking the driver to take a swing to the designated address. And to our surprise the pakcik driver was kind enough to drive us there with no extra charge. We went in hoping to see Kat Von D in action but unfortunately she wasn't around.

Lisa @ LA Ink

Before we adjourned to the Walk of Fame, the very reason why we made the trip all the way to Los Angeles, we passed by many of Hollywood's finest attractions. One of them was...

Walt Disney's Concert Hall

We could not contain our excitement any longer. We were here to see the stars. The stars apparently can be spotted at the intersection of Hollywood Blvd and Highland Avenue. The famous Hollywood tourist attractions such as hand/footprints in the cement courtyard of the Chinese Theatre, the Kodak Theatre, Hollywood and Highland entertainment complex, Madame Tussaud's all greedily can be found near to each other.

Like Lisa, I was also on an important mission. I had Drewbarry More to track down, all in the name of love for the other half, or in the name of guilt sebab husband kena tinggal, we headed to Hollywood's Walk of Fame. In an instance the first star we set our eyes on was the sexiest of Hollywood signing her autograph in the blocked cement.

...hello world! I lurrrrvvve you, yes you!

...kemudian, Lisa flew high with Superman on his back. The problem was, Superman tak perasan pun Lisa was tagging along. After dumping Richard Gere aka donkey, Lisa became Lois Lane for the day.

Drew Barrymore, finally. My husband just adores her sebab she has the same hair colour as mine kahkahkah...apakah?

Many have asked us if we saw anyone famous but to our dissapointment, we didn't, folks. The closest encounter was this...

We were having ice-cream at Farmer's Market one afternoon when Lisa yelped, "...wiz, itu Black Eyed Peas' car. I bet they are here somewhere..." and our eyes went wild for awhile.

And to answer your curiosity, the star who stepped out of the limousine in my previous entry was...jeng jeng jeng

...LISA! ...jeerrr

We abducted a white Limo one fine day and romanced it like we have never romanced anything inanimate before LOL!

...and you know what folks? Michael Jackson wasn't alone that day...

...coz I was there with him ;o)

He may no more be with us but his star is the most photographed on a daily basis. People were seen swarming around it, touching it, lying beside it, running their fingers through his name just to indicate their support and how much he was being missed.

As I walked away counting the stars below, it gleamed on me that my blessings superceded the number of Stars on the boardwalk. I realized I had a lot to be thankful for and being thankful, indeed, made up the bulk of this trip.

And to you who finds time to be here and read words that don't matter, my heartfelt thanks...
to you too.

The End.

Running Away

Ever since I was a child I have always harboured the thought of running away every time this heart of mine felt small or whenever I sensed discriminations amongst siblings and friends. I would sit in my room at the corner of my bed, flipping the pages of this big dark blue covered book. In it I got lost with the character Wee Willie Winkie who has a special ticket that will take him anywhere around the world. He always travels with his brown bag, in his stripped pyjamas. Obviously he was dreaming. I mapped all the places he visited in my head and vowed to run away one day for the adventure of a life time.

Apparently, today would be the day. I am running away just for a while with FAMILY so they too can see and feel what I saw and experienced in this little head of mine 28 years ago.

A promise to the kids and the other half that I would never walk away from them like I did at the airport last year, would be fulfilled today.

Alhamdulillah this time, they are coming with me!

How does a stay at home mum who only bakes and teaches part time single handedly finances this trip you might wonder?.

With creativity and endless of Duas and of course with lots of faith in the two pockets full of sunshine I constantly carry with me.

Ps. thanks mak and ayah for the much needed help. We will have you in our thoughts and prayers.

Thanks so so much Iwan. You made it happen! Now, everyone can fly with me.

ps. Will finish LA after I come back. Catcha later Folks. Muahs.

Fly With Me To L.A. Part 3

It was hard not to tap and hum to the familiar tune of "Pretty Woman" when we passed by this building here on the left. It was where the character played by Julia Roberts received her first taste of the high- life. The hotel, Regent Beverly Wilshire, located at the foot of Rodeo Drive in the heart of Beverly Hills is definitely the place to be if you are not financially challenged. It was told that a "Pretty Woman" getaway can be recreated for the the apparently well-heeled couples.

I love Richard Gere in this movie. It's probably the white hair and the smiling eyes. I told my husband that I look forward to having his hair turn white one day. He reciprocated with "...not until you look like Julia Roberts" Menci! ;o)

After jalan2 and perasan2 on the street of Rodeo Drive we drove ourselves nuts at Universal Studios pulak! We terrorized the place with our screams and shouts on all the rides available. The queue to the rides were moderately long. The longest was perhaps at the Simpsons' Ride.

When we saw the queue, we presumed it would be the best ride this theme park had to offer. Best is defined in theme park language as always the scariest. Along the way, there were warnings that this ride was not for the faint hearted. The description of the ride was also sketched and looking at the trail, I repeatedly asked Lisa, " we really need to do this?" But we were far into the queue and our turn was just around the corner. Rugila if we were to back out then. Did we do it? O yes we did! Was it scary? In a Simpson-ish way it was. ;o)

Lisa, wishing for Richard Gere...

...and poof! Dracula appeared before her very neck. So she gave it a second attempt for Richard Gere...

but she didn't wish hard enough and poof!, she got Donkey instead! Donkey pun Donkey la, janji ada white hair. lol

The two desperate housewives in the end was fairly appeased when they encountered the information board below. Their only wish was to be reunited with the other desperate housewives on the set. Naturally they didn't want to slack in terms of gossiping and minding other people's affairs all in the name of upholding the values on Wisteria Lane. And so they scurried back to their beautiful houses.

This is mine.(Susan's)

This is Lisa's (not sure ni rumah sapa, your guess?)

We ended our visit to the Universal Studios with the Water World Show. Excellent ending to a perfect day.

Next: L.A. The Finale.
