Tree of Hope

The tree,
we so very well adore,
is free
to be enjoyed and more.
Its presence,
is shared and warmly felt,
the emotions,
of people easily melt,
upon looking,
at such a beautiful tree,
so breathtaking,
a reminder for you and me,
how strong,
the power of a tree,
the throng,
is drawn to unity.

All trees,
should be loved and cared,
O please,
for this world that we share.

A new plight for this new year. Happy Happy New Year everyone!

Thanks for dropping by and spending time to read and leave your traces in this little space of mine. My thanks are also extended to my dearest friends and customers who have repeatedly ordered cakes from wizoven and supported me ever since I started this endeavour in April 2007. I would also like to apologize if I have in anyway disappointed you, in taste or in design. I am still in the learning process with flaws and imperfections along the way. Each order received is invaluable experience gained. So, with a bagful of hope, a pocketful of magic wishes, a clasped hands of dua, I welcome this coming new year and greet it with the biggest smile on my face, looking forward to more cake challenges!...bring it on baby!
*Speaking of babies, we plan to have another one next year insyallah kalau ada rezeki, so Adiejin, you may want to start wrapping your wife's book and send it via snail mail to me. Thanks for the book Jin! Just to remind you again I category D tau!

The Recycle of Life

Meet The "R" Team. This special force is led by Peter Lim also known as the local Indiana Jones for unearthing treasures in their daily missions. In fact, Mr Peter Lim and his gang run a much better worthy cause in comparison to all the other movie heroes combined. He helps collect and gather unused or second hand items from home owners like us and fix them up before relinquishing them to the needy. Bulky items collected range from electrical goods, home furniture, bicycles, mattresses, simply anything in your house that is still in good condition. Don't dump them, discreetly, or leave those bulky items at some dumping areas, instead donate them.

I did just that last weekend. I had in possession of 1 queen size mattress, 1 round medium sized dining table, 1 exercise machine which I never used and only functioned as clothes hanging place, baby strollers, baby rocker and high chair, a baby car seat, a lot of other baby stuff which I don't have any ideas what they are called, collapsible picnic table which was used as my dining table masa baru2 kahwin dulu, a box of shoes from my university days, bajus that were given to us but never found the right occasions to wear them, more kids clothes and a few other stuff. I emptied one store room, under the bed and 1 almari and it felt good in many ways. Of course for one, the thought of us donating to a noble cause and the other was the feeling of regaining some space in our house to make room for more junk in the future, he he he. We never thought we had that many stuff but the more we clean up the more stuff we found and the more mess we make. The house is topsy turvy now by the way and in the course of me dragging and lifting the heavy items I kinda sprained or twisted my right wrist. So bengkak la sikit but it hurts tremendously especially when I need to deco my cake. The result is evident in the cakes of my last entry, the herots and the benyuts everywhere.

Anyway, Pertubuhan Amal Seri Sinar as it is called, is a non profit organization and you can read more about their work here. They organize 88 mobile centres weekly, owns 99 recyle box daily and provide pick up services for bulky items for free. They contribute a lot to the society by giving free education to orang asli children, donating to single mothers and welfare homes, providing free medical services to the needy, helping the tsunami victims, aiding the fire victims, reaching out to the homeless, the abandoned and the disabled.

If you have extras to give give away, please don't hesitate to call this organization. They send the nicest troupe to your house with smiles all over their faces, humbled by your gesture to donate. I was overwhelmed by the "R" team and in return of their kind help, I packed them my frozen cakes to each of the team members. It lit up their faces, but that was incomparable to the light they have lit up for my family and I. The light of "the realization" that we too can help reach out to the needy and the unfortunate in the simplest way we know how. So to Mr. Peter and friends, thanks for dropping by my house the other day and helped me clear up the little space I have. I sincerely hope in some ways I have helped to create a livable space to the ones that needed it the most.

The First Time

My first attempt of everything with this featured cake. The first time moulding the pengantin bears, the first time baking a cheesecake for a wedding cake and the first time deploying white chocolate as part of the deco. May with these many firsts open up to many seconds and thirds and fourths of many orders to come.

It was a cheesecake layered with fresh cream and topped with the groom's choice of fruit cocktail and finally encased in tempered white chocolate with random spiral designs along the sides. Thanks for looking!

Clear Skies, All Smiles

The most anticipated event of the year for the Esa clan went on glitch less as hoped, alhamdulillah. It has been raining days prior to the event and my parents and the rest of the family prayed that it would not rain on the designated wedding day. And...alhamdulillah it didn't. The pretty blue sky adorned the occasion with the sun smiling down on us. It was indeed a beautiful clear warm day, perfect for pictures and ideal for receiving guests. Over 600 guests kindly graced our small kenduri, an occasion which united distant relatives and rekindled long lost friendships. The food was incredibly good with gulai masak lemak terung ikan masin being the favourite! Also served at the buffet table to go with the nasi minyak were rojak pasembur, daging dinding, roasted chicken with air asam, acar buah and for dessert, fruit cocktail. Alright folks, enough with the write up, let's have a feast with the pictures, courtesy of Widway's lenses.

And here's from mine
The bunga telur for the main table courtesy of wizcakes®

The next brides to be, the first one in this group would be Princess Shira! She's the one in blue, he he he.
To the newly weds, here's wishing..."Selamat Pengantin Baru, semoga berkekalan ke akhir hayat dan di kurniakan anak2 yang soleh dan solehah insyallah!" Amin.

Charmed!

Which power of three am I? My silly question never seemed to grab my husband's periodic attention especially when he was concentrating his entire being watching the "Charmed" ones. I wasn't really expecting an answer but suddenly during a commercial break he muttered " I guess you are all three" I questioned him, "How's that?" Saje je fishing for compliments ha ha ha. He reciprocated..."Well, you have the power of freezing time with your eyes and finger. Whenever the kids are about to do mischief, you just wand your fore finger, somehow they stopped!" I laughed, and agreed(doing the finger motion). "How do I posses Phoebe's power then?" Curiously I asked. My husband continued..."You have Phoebe's power the most! Your premonitions are almost correct, especially predicting football results." "And Paige's power?" Well, you do orb yourself sometimes, tetiba je ada kat belakang orang, ha ha ha!" We both laughed in agreement to all my powers.

What a revelation! I never knew I had all these powers! After the enlightening conversation, I started to put my powers into good practice with my kids, especially. The Phoebe in me allows the telepathy communication with my husband(yeah right!) and when I am bored and tired with the screaming children I would orb myself to some place else with a book in my hand of course!

So if you don't see me around, I have probably orbed myself to Mush's place or to Salina's or to Zaza's, where the lands are all covered in white at this time of the year. So Mush, Salina and Zaza leave your portals opened, will be dropping by sometimes.

So, which power of three are you?

An ice cream cake with the "Charmed" theme.
Sara Nabila, happy happy birthday! Hope you'd be charmed by the cake.

Thanks Harlina for the order.

A "Mush"y Week!

Drizzles of tiny raindrops have been ushering our days for the past week. I do adore the wishy washy state we are in, the clean driveway, the pure air, the water drops on all my thirsty plants and the ambiance created after, all seemed too lovely for this pair of eyes. The air feels crispier and fresher and you can't help but feel like you are in a temperate country, welcoming the cool season of spring. As an adult, I don't mind relaxing in my wing chair with a book or a magazine and sipping a warm mug of tea all day long. But that is an unlikely scenario at my house when you are stuck with two kids plus 2 hyper active nephews! The rain has confined them between these four walls, and entertaining them has become torturous for me. Hunger pangs come every 2 minutes for these gorgons. I have filled my cookie jars with several types of biscuits, now almost reduced to crumbs. In between snacks they would be served with meals ranging from spaghetti to enormous servings of hot dogs. Lunch is lost in the middle of breakfast and snack time and tea. They are always munching, you can't hardly tell what meal time it is.

Having a pauper for an aunt doesn't really help them in pushing me out of the house for the fast food eg McDonald's and the likes. They have to settle for home cooked meals instead. I managed however, in my littlest time and my tiniest budget to entertain the kids with activities outside the house via Makyang's way. The first day that they were here, I took them to watch Hockey games semi final and final matches at Stadium Bukit Jalil, entrance fee - None, Food - brought some snacks from home and bottles of water too. We even stayed back to celebrate with the champion and took pictures. We waited till everybody was gone and had the entire turf to ourselves and the kids did what they do best, run!
Second day was movie day! Yay! Drove them to the nearest cinema and we watched Enchanted. I booked only three kids' tickets and 1 adult, convincing my little kiddo that we needed to hug each other for warmth, he agreed and loved the idea. In my captain caveman's handbag, tucked all the snacks for the kids to nibble. There were nuggets, cheese biscuits, keropoks and sweets and bottles of water Two hours after that, the kids were hungry again, and they were eyeing on McDonald's and I strayed them to Pizza Hut instead.I have discovered that it is cheaper to dine in Pizza Hut than any other fast food joints. A meal for 4 kids and 1 adult only cost us RM17.83 or something. They couldn't even finish the whole meal, there were two slices left!

The third day was a beautiful day so we decided to go out and play under the friendly weather. I am not a member of any clubhouse and have no access to any swimming pool, except for one, my sister's place! Yay again! We drove off to Taman Tun and allowed the kids to splash around the entire day, wrestling and fighting and screaming in the pool. There were many rounds of crying of course, but they would patch things up and make up in no time at all. We were so tired when we got back home, all sore and weary. I felt like going straight to bed leaving the kids to watch the dvd and fight for the remote control for all they want. But the day wasn't over yet, as I opened the gate to the house I saw this big brown envelope slid inside my mailbox. It was damp due to the rain and I knew right away who it was from. My very very dearest friends Mush has sent this to me all the way from Belgium. It was such a perfect ending to a hectic week. Thank you Mush dear, you certainly have put a smile on my face. I love the card and the Kloskanthuis Home Linen, it is as lovely as you are. Thank you thank you thank you!
There you have it folks, a mushy mushy week for me, from the weather to Mush's beautiful present. I would have to detach myself from this blog for awhile to prepare for the upcoming orders as well as the wedding favours to adorn the meja pengantin of the newly wed. My invited guest writer would entertain you after this with his sports write up of the hockey tournament we last saw. Till next time Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Adha everyone. Have a safe journey home. To the Esa clan, see you in Ipoh!

The Esa Clan

It is never easy to meet everyone of the Esa clan at one single time. There will always be a few members missing, either in action or in attendance. However, the "Do" we had this weekend managed to gather almost everyone in the family who graciously allocated the two days to attend the auspicious occasion. There was Cik Tan and family from Kedah, Ayah Cho and the ever smiling Aunty Dan, Chujan, Cik Nor, makyang, all came with all their family members. All my cousins were present giggling and gossiping away. Other than the enjoyable company, the food was worth the mention too. There was lasagna from kak Lin which I had three helpings from, (it was super duper good!) Nasi Dagang from Kakyong, Meehoon special from Makyang, Cupcakes, curry puffs from Da, tepung talam from makngah,(the best ever) and so many other treats that would put any 5 star buffet table to shame. Good Food plus good company left us feeling warm and fuzzy all day long and not to mention full!

I would like to thank everyone in the Esa Family here, especially Kak Lin and Makyang for hosting the event and allowing us to make a mess in your houses. And to Adik for letting the kids make a mess of the toys. Thank you thank you so much. And to the rest of the clan, your presence was felt in the most wonderful way ever imaginable. Thanks a bunch guys.

Cake of The Year!
