Cake of The Day

There were many requests for the Sesame Street cupcakes this week, and I have been very busy doing just that. They are fun to make and tedious all at the same time but when those monsters are the only faces you see for more than 6 days, it wasn't as fun anymore. So when I was given a task to do hantaran cupcakes (thanks yaya), I jumped on the idea. It's nice to have a change of view from those furry bright coloured little cuties to smooth, soft, pastel cuppies. I have a few more hantarans to work on, so won't be back for awhile. But when I do, I will upload the pics of the MFI event that took place a week ago which is long over due, I know. Till then, Happy Merdeka everybody, or like my husband prefers to say it " Happy 31st " and he is so perasan that his line is the coolest!

A Friendly Note

A friendly note just to say,
Nothing has changed in these past few days,
Cakes of chocolate, carrots and vanilla too
Are priced the same just for you.

Everything else might have a raise,
A few changes you will have to face,
Feeling of forlorn just overwhelms you,
For so many cravings, not knowing what to do.

Can't travel much, expenses are high,
But the sweet cravings you need to satisfy,
Need not look elsewhere, it's nearer than you thought,
A person named wiz that has to be sought!

A few steps of clicking is all you need to do,
Anyway a little exercise is good for you,
Just place your orders via the internet,
As easy as A B C and everything is set,

When the orders are in, you just have to wait,
The cakes will be delivered after they're baked,
Two days or a few, no later than that,
Cakes of your choice is what you will get.

A win win situation hopefully for everyone,
A friendly price we try to grant,
Satisfied clients are all that matter,
In the end "...everyone lives happily ever after." :o)

but for now, hope you'd settle for rosies.

Happy Happy Birthday.

The Sun and The Moon

You are the Sun,
a ball of fire,
you give light
so the earth won't tire.
You provide heat,
make things grow,
or the world would freeze,
till there's life no more.

I am the Moon,
a rock of wonder,
I borrow light,
from you none other,
I am the companion,
of the earth in its rounds,
circling you til my purpose is found.

We are different,
in contrast to each other,
but we are the same,
the likes of a father and a mother.
The need to care those under us,
in the best of our abilities.
Making this magnificent universe,
part of our strong family.

Though we are different,
in so many ways,
our tasks are translucent,
the role given, we must obey.

Mein Diego

I remember now. The year 1999, several months after giving birth to my first child, that was the last time I tagged my husband to his football match. Iman was probably 8 months old and we rested at the pavilion whilst he and the other players changed into their jerseys. I think I know why that was the last time too. I remembered that I had to look away or pretended that I wasn't looking at young guys changing into their shorts before my eyes. It was very uncomfortable for me, but the guys didn't even twitch or tried to be discreet like using a towel or hide behind a friend or something. Most of them were not married yet, so I was the only female there. Another reason for my absence at the pitch was simply to avoid embarrassments that I would inflict on my husband. I have this uncontrollable urge to scream and shout at him every time he made a bad move or miss a golden opportunity of scoring. I am his numero uno fanatic fan, hence the unlady like misdemeanor.

But two Sundays ago, out of the blue, I decided to tag along with the kids just to show some support. He has been representing this club and they have games every fortnightly. I repeatedly told myself in the car, no shouting, no screaming, no pacing. Upon reaching the field, I saw a few mothers tending to their young and playing at the adjacent playground at the side. My kids joined them too, but I was super glued to the match. I had goose bums when I saw him dribbling the ball and the worst part was I had to refrain myself from bursting with "...Chameee! from the corner rembat je!" when he missed to shove the ball into the net. I was cool, I shouted at my kids instead with "...Iman! look after Your brother!" Pretty appropriate of me, a good exchange I thought. I think next time I would probably join the other wives playing with their kids at the playground and detach myself from the game entirely.

My husband to me is the best footballer Malaysia has ever seen. He represented this country when he was under 19 competing internationally and also locally. He was the football captain at Victoria Institution school and highly revered for his dribbling skills. However due to his parents' disapproval of his interest he had to back out from joining the national team and continued with his studies. He missed his window of opportunities at pursuing it professionally for his utmost respect of the parents' wishes. Today, he still plays football whenever he gets the chance to and there was never a day that went by that he had not thought of the "road not taken" and the "what could've been".

It's our 11th Anniversary today and for being his nummer ein fan I just want to say that He will always be my favourite football player of all times. He is my Maradona for his passion, my Cantona for his temper and my Batistuta for those dreamy eyes. Gl├╝cklicher Jahrestag Liebling. Ich liebe dich soviel!

Everything

Said my sis "...a song that you wished your husband would sing or at least dedicate to you" And I second, third, fourth, fifth that.

Michael Buble - Everything

You're a falling star, You're the get away car.
You're the line in the sand when I go too far.
You're the swimming pool, on an August day.
And you're the perfect thing to say.

And you play you're coy, but it's kinda cute.
Ah, When you smile at me you know exactly what you do.
Baby don't pretend, that you don't know it's true.
Cause you can see it when I look at you.

[Chorus:]
And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It's you, it's you, You make me sing.
You're every line, you're every word, you're everything.

You're a carousel, you're a wishing well,
And you light me up, when you ring my bell.
You're a mystery, you're from outer space,
You're every minute of my everyday.

And I can't believe, uh that I'm your man,
And I get to kiss you baby just because I can.
Whatever comes our way, ah we'll see it through,
And you know that's what our love can do.

[Chorus:]
And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It's you, it's you, You make me sing
You're every line, you're every word, you're everything.

So, La, La, La, La, La, La, La
So, La, La, La, La, La, La, La

[Chorus:]
And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It's you, it's you, You make me sing.
You're every line, you're every word, you're everything.
You're every song, and I sing along.
'Cause you're my everything.
Yeah, yeah

So, La, La, La, La, La, La, La
So, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La

When Your Car is a Platypus

We were on the North South highway one weekend bound for Ipoh when a swarm of Lotuses just whooshed us by. There were hundreds of them in bold and striking colours trying to outdo each other on the road. The kids were screaming and waving *I waved too* at the not so young guys (mostly in their 40s) in those magnificent cars, my hub was honking and giving them the thumbs up all the way. Just for a moment there, it felt like we were one of them, part of the Lotus convoy, since our car too could be mistaken for a lotus*yeah right* in its bright yellow colour. In the midst of all the honking and waving and perasaning, my son blurted out "...mama, Anin tak suka la keta kita ni. Mama beli la keta macam tu, lagi best." I looked at my husband and then turned my gaze to my children and said "...now, if we bought a car like that, where are we going to peronyok you guys in? There are only two seats and not much space at the back. You have tons of things to bring everytime we take the car out even to the kedai runcit Naleena, like your swimming bag, your 'just in case we go to the movies tonight' jackets, your plastic of toys, your bag of books and snacks, mama and kakak's telekong pouches, baba's 'just in case I can play football today' boots, and baba's 'just in case there's someone to play tennis with' rackets, and don't forget your cushions?!? Silence permeated the air, well for a few seconds before both of them jolted "...iye la mama, tak best la keta tu, keta kita laaaagi best!"

Our car may not be the most sophisticated car around, may not be the fastest and may not even be the sight for sore eyes for many people we know, but it is like our second home, a place we take refuge in. We have travelled a great distance in this yellow refrigerator on wheels as I endearingly call it, all over Malaysia except for Sabah and Sarawak. With plenty of room at the back, the children have often played camp there under a lot of selimuts, did their homework, had their meals, and even slept the nights away while we were travelling. It's our little caravan, our home away from home. From the outside people may view the car as boxy, clowny, silly looking but from the inside we always look at them as people who are missing the most for not enjoying this car as much as we do.

It may not be a Lotus, but we are thankful for our own car, adik beradik kepada Lotus la, called Platypus.

Basikal Tua

Overlooking one of the many lakes at Putrajaya

Challenging trails for young bikers

I was reading an entry by my friend Enida lamenting if only our beloved country was more conducive for cyclers. I agree with her to a certain extent that it's always too hot, too sticky, too dusty, too everything. We have always likened ourselves to the Bangau oh Bangau song, perpetually blaming anything and everything for our incapabilities and unwillingness to do things. If we couldn't find anything to blame on, there's always the weather! Malaysia is too hot and too humid to allow us to enjoy the world class facilitiess that we have here except those in the higher altitude like Genting of course. I am no exception to this dilemma, I have written scrolls and scrolls of complaints that went unattended, but I still write them anyways maybe because I have nothing better to do.

But I'm here to share with Enida and the rest of the readers about this special place conducive for avid cyclers, joggers, walkers, and picnickers alike which is situated in Putrajaya. This Botanical Park located in Precinct 1 has so much to offer in its 230 acre garden. I am not going to elaborate more as I want to let you discover the beauty of the place yourself here. You need not have to worry of stashing your bicycles at the back of your car or on the car roof before going on this botanical adventure since the park provides bicycles for a minimal fee. And you can be assured that the bicycles are not from the bygone eras like the basikal tua or the chopper in which you would look and feel awkward riding on one! All the bicycles are new and they are quite a few types to choose from. From mountain bikes, children's tricycles to tandems and even bikes with baby carriers are readily parked at the cycling station, just take your pick. A reminder for future patrons to this place is not to forget to bring loads of home cooked food in a pretty basket and a tikar mengkuang as you do need to stop and take a breather by the lakeside to enjoy the magnificent view of the wetland. Or you could just buy a barrel of KFC chicken at Alamanda before paddling your afternoon away. It's a nice and a pretty cool way to enjoy a weekend with your family, we certainly did!

A Taste of Health

My son's health was restored and so was his appetite, alhamdulillah. I just wanted to bake something simple for him, something that everybody likes and I planned to sedekah some away to the neighbours too. I found a great food blog by JinHooi and her butter cake was calling out for me to try. I love my butter cake light and moist not dense and from the picture the cake's texture resembles the kind that I love. I followed her recipe exactly, with just the inclusion of chocolate shavings in the batter. Thanks Jin Hooi.

Butter Cake
Source JinHooi

Ingredients
250 gm butter
200 gm caster sugar
6 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla essence
300 gm self-raising flour (sifted)
½ to 3/4 cup of evaporated milk
1 cup of chocolate shavings

Method
1. Preheat the oven to 160°C.
2. Beat the butter with the caster sugar until white and fluffy. Add in eggs one at a time and mix well. Then add is vanilla essence and evaporated milk and mix well.
3. Lastly fold in sifted flour into the butter mixture and mix well. Pour into a greased and lined cake tray and bake for about an hour.

Verdict: I found the recipe a lil bit too eggy, and next time I would put 3/4 cup of evaporated milk instead of just half a cup. But everybody loved them anyways.

Sunshine in My Window

It was a looong night. Adnin's temperature was increasing from warm to hot to burning hot. He was already given his antibiotics and paracetamol but it took so long to work. I had to sponge him all over and he hated the cold towel on his skin. He couldn't sleep either and was whining, crying and complaining about the pounding headache that kept him from dozing off. I tried to ease his pain, massaging his body, rubbing his soles and brushing his hair. In between consoling him I had to force him to down as much water as possible, he hated that too. Naturally as a result of that, his tank was always full and he needed to empty his bulging bladder regularly. It was a hectic night for both of us, bed to toilet to bed and back to the toilet again not just to take a leak but also to disgorge the little food that he had eaten before. I struggled to stay awake but succumbed to my exhaustion and fell asleep in a sitting position. In the early morning the next day, after subuh and after waking my husband and daughter up, and after giving my son another dose of his antibiotics, I fell flat on my bed. The forty winks somehow felt like I was cast in an abracadabra spell of a 100 years slumber and was just waiting for my prince to awaken me. Just like the fairy tale, it was a handsome prince who shook me to life with words that I have been longing to hear "...mama, Anin nak makan nasi!" Finally...
